To the "The word "Real "gamers" hate the title of gamer." anon. I think you're acting a bit stuck up and pretentious about a hobby as if you have to protect it and you know best. "real gamers" don't hate the word gamer or are assholes about it. They're gamers and they share a great hobby which should create a bond instead of douchebag behavior. Greetings, a game journalist.

Honestly I think "gamer" is only a shit title when people try to tack on all the extra junk to it. You are right, a builder builds, a writer writes, a teacher teaches, gamers game. Instead of trying to veto the word (which is an accurate description) just ignore people that try to put all the extra qualifiers on it

That anon is just.. well I don't want to say something rude. But anyway "real gamers" who hate being called a "gamer", that just sounds snobbish. If you play games you're a gamer. If I drink water I'm a drinker. If I listen to music I'm a listener. Seriously what kind of emphasis is this person putting on the word gamer that it feels like a slur to them?

The word "gamer" should be put out of existence. It's degrading, and I enjoy video games, play them seriously sometimes, and program them as well. People connected to the word "gamer" use it as a false title to make themselves important. Real "gamers" hate the title of gamer. And I know a lot of them.

Really? I think that’s a bit of an unusual stance to be taking, to be honest. I enjoy playing video games, and I have done since I was really little. So for simplicity’s sake, I’m happy to be called a gamer. Personally, I don’t find anything wrong with the word ‘gamer’. It implies ‘someone who plays games’. Just like ‘builder’ implies ‘someone who builds’ or ‘writer’ implies ‘someone who writes’. So if you take the title of ‘gamer’ away from us, then what will we be called?
